Chess960 World Championship Returns in 2018!

After a nearly decade long hiatus, the Chess960 World Championship is back! From February 9th to 13th this year, Magnus Carlsen will challenge Hikaru Nakamura for the unofficial title at the Henie-Onstad Art Centre in Norway. Details are available at frchess.com, and there is also an interesting article there which explains a bit of the history and motivation for the match.

Magnus has an excellent score against Hikaru in classical chess, although I expect Hikaru to have a lot more experience in chess960. Whatever the result, it’s going to be very interesting!

  1. Red Fool Chess variant, fully deterministic alternative to Chess 960

Red Fool Chess solves the opening book problem Chess 960 solves, but my variant has no randomness. I built a custom engine in javascript with the basic features of fairy-stockfish engine. Play Red Fool Chess live here : https://carbunclebooks.net/
